Summary: This regional wānanga was held on 24 March 2017 at Hoani Waititi Marae, Oratia in Tāmaki Makaurau | Auckland. It was an opportunity for participants to learn more about the theory behind primary prevention and experience some great examples of it in action. An action of the multi-sector action plan (#4777) to prevent family, whānau and sexual violence, the wānanga was hosted by Auckland Council with the support of the Accident Compensation Corporation. Background: Prior to this wānanga, Auckland Council, with the support of the Ministry of Social Development, New Zealand Family Violence and other agencies hosted a series of 4 hui during 2012 and 2013. That series of meetings was a regional initiative to bring together people working to prevent family violence and sexual violence from across Auckland to focus on primary prevention . On 2 March 2012, an Auckland Regional Hui on family and sexual violence prevention was held at Ōrākei Marae in Tāmaki Makaurau | Auckland. Following the hui, in consultation with the family and sexual violence sectors, Council Officers drafted a series of short term actions that Auckland Council could undertake in 2012/13 within existing resources and budget. One of these was to hold three regional networking meetings per year. The first one was held on Monday 10 September 2012. A second meeting was held on 26 February 2013 in Mangere. The third and final meeting was held at Western Springs on 11 December 2013. . Record #8959
