This paper proposes to amend legislation to extend the existing discretion to support young people transitioning from care to independence up to age 25, and to ensure that reasonable<br/>efforts are made to remain in contact with young people after they leave care up to age 21. This paper is one of a series of papers that contain legislative proposals required to support<br/>the operating model for the Ministry for Vulnerable Children, Oranga Tamariki (the new Ministry). The proposals in this paper will be included in a package of legislative reform, referred to in this paper as Bill No 2.
