This article discusses the Family Group Conference (FGC) in the context of contemporary practice. The author outlines the rationale for the current review of the Children, Young Persons, and Their Families Act (1989). The article looks back over the decade of the 1990s and comments on issues for the future development of the FGC model. The author posits that practice will always need to change and evolve according to contemporary needs. To reduce violence within the family over the long term, the author recommends an early intervention approach.
