520 | _aThe Ministry of Health developed and published a report in 2011 showing health indicators for New Zealanders with intellectual disabilities using data from 2008. Although more than ten years have passed, the results have not been updated since that time, and as a result IHC commissioned Kōtātā Insight to update the indicators, as well as to extend the scope to cover areas beyond health. The indicators have been developed using Stats NZ’s Integrated Data Infrastructure, a large research database which collects together administrative and survey datasets from across government and non-government organisations. The project reports on the lives of people with and without intellectual disability in Aotearoa and includes a broad range of indicators across different areas of wellbeing. These indicators provide a baseline which can be used to track progress in outcomes for the intellectually disabled community. They will also inform advocacy for people with intellectual disabilities by providing evidence to influence the direction of government policy. The hope is that it will support better outcomes for people with intellectual disabilities in the future. The project has followed a set of principles to ensure that intellectually disabled people receive the benefits of the research and had opportunities to participate in it.
