520 | _aThis review of the current research identifies five key requirements to create a workplace that does not tolerate sexual harassment: culture; policy; training; reporting mechanisms; and the way employers respond to reports. Successful and lasting change requires sustained commitment, and we provide a guide in this executive summary, with more detail in the report, on how to do this work. In the new year, our partners will together publish an employer toolkit building on this insight to continue to support organisations to change. Each of the five areas discussed in this report is interconnected, and good action in one area reinforces good action in others (and vice versa, if the work is not successful). For example, a good policy means reporting will be more likely, and the way employers respond to reports helps determine the organisation’s culture. The aim is to create a virtuous circle of improvements. This will help create workplaces where women are safe to report incidents of sexual harassment and employers will be able to respond appropriately – it will create an environment where sexual harassment does not happen in the first place.
