| 520 | _aOn 13 September 2016, the Government announced a package proposing a broad overhaul of family violence legislation, stemming from the comprehensive review of the 20-year old Domestic Violence Act. The proposed changes are set out in this document. The package makes changes to both civil and criminal laws, and provides system level changes to support new ways of working. It will cost $132 million over four years. Background to these proposals: In August 2015, the Minister of Justice, Hon Amy Adams, launched a discussion document Strengthening New Zealand’s legislative response to family violence (#4766) and invited all New Zealanders to make a submission. Nearly 500 detailed submissions (4944) were received from individuals, groups and organisations. The submissions played an important role in shaping the package.
