520 _aReachOut was first launched in April 2012 as a new response to men who had used violence or abusive tactics against those closest to them. The service, which uses Police Incident Reports of family violence as a key pathway through which to reach out to men and offer support to change, was conceptualised as an approach that could make a real difference by offering personalised, voluntary (for the men) and respectful support at a time of crisis. This is the report of the evaluative research which has shown that this approach is indeed working successfully for men, and creating positive benefits for those closest to them. The service was extended to Christchurch in January 2013.
