520			_aThe Taskforce for Action on Violence within Families (the Taskforce) assigned responsibility for leading a number of cross-agency work streams arising from its 2011/2012 Programme of Action (POA) to the Family Violence Unit (the Unit). This paper has been prepared by the Unit staff and is one of two papers being written as part of the Family Violence Interagency Response System (FVIARS) project (POA 4.2). The 2011/2012 FVIARS project has focused on developing a better understanding of the current FVIARS process to inform further development.1 FVIARS is a multi-agency response designed to enhance the information sharing and risk assessment of family violence incidences reported to police. FVIARS was introduced nationally in December 2006 and is delivered locally throughout New Zealand. FVIARS was originally based around a tripartite response involving Police, Child Youth and Family and the National Collective of Independent Women’s Refuge (NCIWR), although in some communities many more agencies have become involved in FVIARS. This FVIARS Baseline document identifies each individual FVIARS in New Zealand. It includes information on their current structure, operations and volumes, and summarises local operational processes. The baseline document has been shared with all FVIARS so they are all able to learn how the different FVIARS operate. (from the Introduction)
