520 _aIn a child setting, the focus on the child may mean that woman abuse is unidentified or neglected (Duffy, 1999). Similarly, a focus on the woman's mental health may neglect the effect on the child of witnessing woman abuse (Jaffe, Wolfe et al 1990). In this paper we discuss the development of protocols for the detection of and intervention into child and woman abuse in a child, adolescent and family mental health setting. We describe the precursors necessary for successful u~ of these protocols, and we discuss the obstacles that may prevent their implementation. (from the Introduction).
