520 _aEngendering Change: Transforming Gender Roles in Asian & Pacific Islander Communities is a project of the Asian & Pacific Islander Institute on Domestic Violence. This report grew out of a round-table discussion, convened by the API Institute, inviting battered women’s advocates and providers of Batterer Intervention Programs (BIPs) with the following objectives: (1) To address the intersections of race, class and gender; (2) To articulate how advocates and providers can forge theory and practice about BIPs and men’s work in ending violence against API women; and (3) To identify culturally contextualized principles and practices that can transform gender roles in API communities. Changing gender roles is an extensive, multi-disciplinary topic that includes sociology, anthropology, gender studies, etc., but that is not what we are trying to cover here. As Asian and Pacific Islander advocates, we came to the table formulate questions and issues we need to address and confront in our communities. This report marks the beginnings of many such conversations. (from the Introduction).
