520 _aThis report publishes the results of a descriptive study that was designed to capture service delivery information from batterer intervention programmes around the world. It indexes fifty-six programmes for men who batter, including programmes in high, middle, and low- income nations. Input was sought from a variety of experts, including injury surveillance specialists, people with field experience in batterer intervention and victim advocacy, intimate partner violence researchers, and representatives of programmes in developing nations. The results section discusses the characteristics, development and funding of programmes, client referrals and demographics, definitions and theories on the causes of intimate partner violence, intervention topics covered, screening, victim contact, intervention goals, staff training, programme evaluation, couples counselling, the effects on staff, and intervention with boys and young men. Several recommendations are put forward that would assist in effective intervention programmes.
