520 _aThis report discusses a literature review that summarises the literature concerning effective practice in relation to either prevention or intervention programmes around relationship violence regarding young mothers. Very little literature was found (only four articles) that had this specific focus. Therefore the review focuses on the current received wisdom in relation to effective practice in addressing and/or reducing relationship violence for young mothers. The review later formed part of an evaluation (see Oliver, 2006) of a support programme for young mothers in the Auckland metropolitan area. Discussion is provided on various approaches and strategies in reducing relationship violence. This includes co-ordinated inter-agency approaches, safety planning, parenting programmes, and structural and economic changes that are needed to reduce the risk factors associated with relationship violence. The vulnerabilities and issues that teens, young women, and young adults face concerning their experience of relationship violence are also discussed, as is service provision for these young people.
