520 | _aThis is one of a series of reports produced by Raranga Whatumanawa (The weaving of the heart patterns), a research project undertaken by the Psychology Clinic at Massey University, in conjunction with the Psychology Centre in Hamilton, to investigate the mental health assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and outcomes resulting from sexual abuse. The research was funded by the Accident Compensation Corporation of New Zealand (ACC) and contributes to the development of useable national practice guidelines. This report is one of a set of five literature reviews and aims to assist in the identification of the effects of sexual abuse. This particular literature review focuses on the psycho-social consequences of sexual abuse for children and adolescents in three areas: the symptoms of sexual abuse sequelae, the assessment of children and adolescents who have been sexually abused, and remedial treatments for the negative consequences of sexual abuse. Approaches to assessment and treatment are critically examined and promising areas for future research are highlighted. Please do not cite or quote this technical report with out permission. | ||
