520			_aThis is one of a series of reports produced by Raranga Whatumanawa (The weaving of the heart patterns), a research project undertaken by the Psychology Clinic at Massey University, in conjunction with the Psychology Centre in Hamilton, to investigate the mental health assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and outcomes resulting from sexual abuse. The research was funded by the Accident Compensation Corporation of New Zealand (ACC) and contributes to the development of useable national practice guidelines. This particular report provides an analysis of ACC archived sensitive claims files where counselling was received between January 2003 and November 2004. A sample of 125 files was selected from a pool of 3,228 cases. The files sampled were predominantly those of adult females, although 32 were child or youth files. The majority of cases were of childhood sexual abuse or sexual assault. An analysis of key case features is conducted and their findings summarised. The implications of these are discussed, along with recommendations for future research. The limitations of the sample are also discussed.
