It also very briefly touches upon related topics, such as: health issues common to partners of pathological gamblers; the relationship between problem gambling, alcohol abuse and intimate partner violence; and an increased risk of violence due to unemployment. The majority of the research cited is US or Canadian-based, with the exception of one Taiwan-based study citing the effects of the traditional Chinese family's patriarchal structure on financial exploitation related to problem gambling.
