500 _a"Report prepared for CPS" "The primary purpose of this document is to report on the findings of the evaluation of the effectiveness of CPS undertaken by Momentum Research and Evaluation at the request of The Todd Foundation and CPS"--Introduction
520 _aThis report presents the result s of an evaluation of the effectiveness of CPS (formerly the Institute for Child Protection Studies), a New Zealand organisation providing training in child protection since 1994. Data was collected from reviewing CPS documents and service use data, 16 interviews with CPS staff, board members and key informants, and a telephone survey of 19 course participants from the period 2005-2007. The literature on child abuse, neglect and protection was also reviewed. The evaluation found CPS were effective in facilitating significant change in the skill level of programme participants, in addition their approach to child protection is supported by the literature. However CPS is constrained by lack of funding. For example, there is scope for providing child protection training to all professionals who work with children and families. The author recommends that CPS be resourced to expand their child protection and advocacy work.
