It presents promising practices and strategies, not empirically supported practices. The contributors are experienced researchers, policy makers and practitioners. The book presents largely United States-based material with some discussion of Canadian and Israeli experiences. The book begins with parents' thoughts on such men's contact with, and parenting of, their children. This is followed by a discussion of how courts and practitioners assess the appropriateness of violent men's contact with their children. The second half of the book provides practice examples including how to provide parenting skills to men who batter, and accountability guidelines for working with fathers who have been involved in adult domestic violence. There is also a description of tools for providing fatherhood content in traditional batterer-intervention groups, and a discussion of work to reconnect Latino men who batter to positive concepts of parenting and manhood. The final chapter discusses criteria to be considered when assessing the success of efforts in working with men who batter. | ||
