520 | _aThis qualitative report is an independent evaluation of the protocols of the Waitakere Family Violence Court (WFVC) and how it responds to family violence and the principles of Te Rito New Zealand Family Violence Prevention Strategy. The report contains an introduction to the social context and background of the WFVC, applicable legislation and processes of the Court. Participant data and documentary evidence was thematically coded and analysed by Interpretive Phenomenological Analysis, and Narrative Analysis. Data was collected via one-to-one interviews and focus groups between June and July 2006 from a sample of 26 participants selected from representative stakeholder groups. The key findings of the report indicate that overall the adaptive, flexible and collaborative nature of the WFVC has been successful over the fifteen years of its operation. However, findings did identify a need to address both care in consultation processes, and in the adapting and interpreting of practices. While the research found there was a shared understanding of family violence by the stakeholders of the WFVC, a need for further training in the dynamics of family violence, and the operations of the WFVC was highlighted. Future planned research arising from the study includes continued evaluation of the WFVC and studies of victim's experiences. A subsequent discourse analysis of the report has been conducted by one of the authors, and a statistical analysis of court data is due for completion in June 2007. Record #2613 | ||
