520 _aThis report presents a summary of the workshops and key messages from the E Tu Taking Action Summit held in April 2008 at Hopuhopu marae, Ngaruawahia, New Zealand. This event was convened by the Maori Reference Group to the Taskforce for Action on Violence within Families, and brought together Maori leaders to discuss whānau violence and to bring their commitment to addressing the issue. The report is intended to provide a plan for the next phase of activity involving a series of meetings throughout New Zealand. The report is in three sections: speakers' notes, workshop notes and reflections, and actions. Eight overarching themes emerged from the Summit: Maori solutions to whanau violence are the key to success; eradicating whanau violence is the responsibility of us all; reclaiming tikanga, fostering pride and affirming identity will be the foundation for change; the home is restored as a loving safe environment where healthy partnerships are the norm; Maori are diverse and innovative and there are many successes to learn from; it is time shift focus from talk to action; it is time to shift focus from crisis intervention to early intervention and sustainable change; and we are all responsible for taking action now.
