520 | _aThis report provides a planning framework for developing policies and programmes for the prevention of intimate partner and sexual violence. It aims to provide sufficient information for policy-makers and planners to develop data-driven and evidence-based programmes for preventing intimate partner and sexual violence against women. Taking a public health approach to prevention, the report views the causes, consequences and prevention of intimate partner and sexual violence within a life-course perspective based upon understanding how influences early in life can act as risk factors for health-related behaviours or health problems at later stages. The key messages include: intimate partner and sexual violence may affect everyone; the harm caused by such violence can last a lifetime and span generations; primary prevention of this violence is likely to save lives and money; using evidence of what has already worked will increase the likelihood that prevention efforts are successful; and incorporating outcome evaluations into primary prevention interventions is crucial in generating further evidence. Although public health practitioners are a key target audience, the document assumes no previous knowledge of public health principles. | ||
