520 _aFirst published in 1998, this book looks at the nature of male abusiveness. It focuses on a particular type of personality which is easily threatened, jealous and fearful but masks these feelings with anger and control behaviour, often linked to negative childhood experiences. The latter include being a witness to violence, the use of shaming techniques by parents, and insecure attachment, in turn manifesting itself by characteristics such as terror of abandonment, an inability to regulate emotions or effectively deal with conflict. The last chapter deals with treatment.
