520 _aThis article discusses Part 1 of a domestic protection study of battered women seeking protection from the justice system. Three case studies are presented that formed part of a substantial study of the problem of repeated breaches of domestic protection orders (see "Protection From Family Violence: A Study of Protection Orders Under the Domestic Protection Act 1982", Busch, Lapsley & Robertson, 1992). The authors contend that the women's stories are central to a critical evaluation of the efficacy of interventions offered by the justice system.
