520 _aThis article provides a synopsis of the findings from the research that underpinned stage one of the Child and Adolescent Sexual Abusers/Offenders Project, commissioned by the New Zealand Children and Young Persons Service. The first task of the project was to establish the rate of sexual offending among children and young people. It was noted that there was an urgent need to achieve a greater consistency in the application of the Children, Young Persons and Their Families Act (1989) in intervening with this group of offenders.
