520 _aThis article explores aspects of violence against women by their male partners. A sample of 500 women drawn from participants in the "New Zealand National Survey of Crime Victims 1996" (1997) were interviewed about facets of partner violence. The article discusses some of the main findings from the study in relation to the prevalence of partner abuse. Why women remain with their violent partners is also explored. Overall, the findings indicate relatively high levels of violence towards women by their male partners.
