500 _aTe Awatea Review 1(1) December 2003 : 14-15
520 _aThis article explores the issues around elder abuse and neglect, and identifies that substantially more research is necessary within New Zealand. The few small-scale studies previously undertaken in this area differ widely in their results, and as yet cannot be used to provide accurate generalised data across the field. The author identifies areas of future concern, including the current dearth of knowledge, the limited use of policy initiatives without a wider knowledge base, and the growing ageing population.
