500 _aTe Awatea Review 1(1) 2003 : 20-22
520 _aThis article explores social, familial, placement and treatment issues for adolescent sexual offenders in New Zealand. The author discusses adolescent female perpetrators and identifies a study currently undertaken in Christchurch in this area. The article examines placement options for young offenders and suggests that limited options and resources can lead to indiscriminate placements characterised by a lack of planning. This author suggests further research to be carried out in the field of adolescent sexual offending as there is little New Zealand theoretical and practice-based research, and New Zealand treatment programmes are presently informed by international literature.
