520 _aThe aim of this study was to develop a multi-item tool for use in screening for lifestyle and mental health risk factors. The tool was designed to screen patients from across New Zealand for lifestyle and mental health factors such as smoking, alcohol and drug use, problem gambling, depression, abuse, weight, and anger issues. From a sample size of 2,543 the number of participants indicating they experienced depression was 42.7%, and for problem gambling was 2.8%. The researchers emphasise the importance of screening for lifestyle and mental health factors by health practitioners. General practitioners indicated they were willing to use the screening tool when it becomes available.
