520 _aThis letter to the editor is a response to Ian Hassall's letter published in the same journal issue which took issue with the authors' 2009 paper 'Parental physical and psychological aggression: Psychological symptoms in young adults.' (Child Abuse & Neglect, 33(2)). In response Miller-Perrin & Perrin state that the question of outcomes from corporal punishment of children is central to the debate about the appropriateness of spanking as a parenting technique. They conclude that although the question of human rights is not currently central to the debate on spanking or other forms of corporal punishment of children, it perhaps should be.
