Parenting programmes that have successfully reduced both types of violence often take a gender-transformative approach — working with women and men to challenge unequal gender norms and power dynamics and to build relationships and parenting skills that support more equitable, caring, and nonviolent family dynamics. [1], [2] Such programmes provide key lessons for strengthening existing parenting programmes to work at the intersections of violence against children and violence against women. This brief is designed for parenting practitioners implementing parenting programmes who wish to adapt their programmes to integrate violence prevention and gender equality. The brief is organised around five stages of adaptation, with each stage broken down into specific steps and actions for practitioners to take when adapting their programme. The brief is the third in a series designed to support practitioners in integrating the prevention of violence against children and violence against women, as well as the promotion of gender equality, into existing parenting programmes.
