The Elder Abuse Strategy is a 10-year whole of government plan that aims to prevent and respond to the abuse of older people throughout Western Australia. This empirical research into the mistreatment of older Aboriginal people utilised qualitative and quantitative research methods to collect in-depth information from Aboriginal elders, community, Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations (ACCOs) and aged care support providers to provide descriptive insights into six key lines of enquiry. Key lines of enquiry What constitutes mistreatment of older Aboriginal people The extent of mistreatment in WA How mistreatment may differ from the general population The unique challenges experienced by Aboriginal people related to where they live (communities) Risk factors and barriers to individuals seeking support from organisations Awareness and preventative responses to support Aboriginal people and their communities at the individual, community, and government level.
