To develop this report, GVRN conducted a comprehensive review of academic and relevant policy literature to identify and analyse existing research on disability, economic and financial abuse. While economic and financial abuse can occur in a variety of contexts for people with disability, this report focuses specifically on DFV. It is therefore not the remit of this report to provide a full account of the literature relating to economic and financial abuse among people with disability falling outside this area of focus. However, we acknowledge economic and financial abuse is a prevalent and devastating form of abuse for people with disability more broadly. There are two significant over-arching findings from this evidence review: 1. There is a distinct gap in the evidence base related to the perpetration of economic and financial abuse in the context of DFV; 2. Using the umbrella term ‘disability’ is not always helpful and frequently does not allow a nuanced understanding of the range of impairments including the severity and the impact on the person affected..
