Between July 2019 and July 2020, our research teams held 14 listening sessions with Black and Latinx survivors who had intersectional identities related to their life experiences, including having a history of incarceration, being a new immigrant, living in poverty and/or being part of the LGBTQ communites. Study participants shared stories about finding, keeping and losing their housing. Researchers used a modified constructivist grounded theory approach for data analysis. A model of housing insecurity which incorporated participants’ experiences was developed by the research team following initial listening sessions (7). The team then held a series of participant validation groups (7) in order to refine the model and develop recommendations. (From the report).
