Eight women were interviewed across three New Zealand cities. Data was analysed using a general inductive approach (Thomas, 2006). Queer theory was used as the theoretical framework to interpret findings. Findings revealed that the transition to parenthood has similarities to that of heterosexual couples. However, lesbian couples experience unique challenges within their relationship during this transition in relation to key concepts of heteronormativity, homonormativity, biologism, and the queering of parenthood.
