It seeks to show the extent of children's experiences of family violence. The report notes that the results are likely to be indicative of what could be expected from a randomly selected sample of police incidents of family violence in New Zealand. The analysis shows that, in 58% of all cases recorded by the HAIP Project, children were present in the house at the time family violence occurred. In the majority of cases, the violence witnessed by the children involved a parent. Sometimes the children became directly involved through attempts to intervene. The report raises the question of how much violence towards children goes unrecorded. The author believes that research is needed both on the incidence and prevalence of family violence that involves children, and on the impact such violence has on the children who are involved UR - https://www.msd.govt.nz/about-msd-and-our-work/publications-resources/journals-and-magazines/social-policy-journal/spj02/02-children-violence.html ER -
