It is linked to the Domestic Violence Act (1995), and "The New Zealand Government Statement of Policy on Family Violence" (1996), and associated "Good Practice Guidelines" for co-ordination of family violence services. The policy has two parts, the first dealing with investigation and arrest, bail and custody, firearms, support for victims and for children witnessing violence, role of Family Violence Coordinators, reporting and recording, charges, and monitoring. This section also sets out the interagency approach to family violence as the preferred model. The second part deals with the policy around protection orders, including serving protection orders, police powers of arrest for breaches of protection orders, detention and bail, respondent's access to weapons, and members of police as respondents UR - https://files.vine.org.nz/koha-files/fv-policy-1996-2.pdf ER -
