N2  - This report presents the findings from New Zealand's first comprehensive national survey of crime victims. The response rate was 57% and participants were drawn from a random sample of the population aged 15 years and over. The objectives of the survey were to produce an alternative measure to police crime victimisation statistics; to collate information on the circumstances and impact of offences; to illustrate victims' responses to crime and its effects; and to provide other information related to crime. The survey focused on personal offences and household offences. The results of the survey indicate that nearly two-thirds of the offences disclosed in the survey are violent or sexual offending. The report discusses family violence in relation to the perpetrators being well known to the victim; this includes data collected on partner abuse
