The two programmes are Tu Tama Wahine o Taranaki based in New Plymouth, and Te Whare Ruruhau o Meri, located in Otahuhu, South Auckland. Both of these programmes are delivered based upon Maori conceptual frameworks. A qualitative methodology was employed, involving interviews with staff, key informants and participants of the programmes. Seven objectives guided information gathering, and these included: describing the philosophy and content underpinning the programme; evaluating how the programme meets the goals of The Domestic Violence (Programmes) Regulations; examining the implementation and delivery of each programme; identifying positive and negative outcomes on participants; investigating possible barriers to attendance; determining if the needs of Māori participants are met; and ascertaining which components of each programme constitute 'best practice' to inform other programmes of this kind. The report discusses the findings of each of the aforementioned objectives for both programmes. Overall, the study found that programmes utilising Māori traditions and principles to be effective when working with Māori domestic violence victims UR - http://www.justice.govt.nz/assets/Documents/Publications/maori-domestic-violence.pdf ER -
