Statistics from reported offences, prosecuted charges, convictions, and protection orders are presented, and the author discusses some of the policy, legislative and social contextual factors that could influence the trends in the various measures of family violence. The report shows that since 2002, there has been an increase in family violence-related offences and prosecutions, while there has been a decline in the number of applications for protection orders. The author maintains, however, that this data cannot easily determine changes in the underlying levels of family violence in New Zealand society. Regular analysis of justice sector data, linked closely to contextual changes, is recommended UR - https://files.vine.org.nz/koha-files/Bartlett2005.pdf ER -
