Anecdotal evidence from some Australian services has also suggested that the number of domestic violence incidents increase around certain times, especially during the Christmas and New Year holiday period (ABC Online 2005). This paper reports on a study conducted by the Australian Domestic & Family Violence Clearinghouse about the possible relationships between reported domestic violence incidents and seasonal changes, calendar and football events. The study reviewed relevant international research to investigate claims around correlations between these variables. An analysis was then made of three years of domestic violence statistics from Australian states and territories, for which data were available.--INTRODUCTION.
