N2  - This article evaluates the Domestic Violence Bill, questioning its effectiveness in terms of enhancing women's safety and autonomy. It asks to what extent the Bill mandates this importance, rather than leaving it to the discretion of decision-makers as has been the case in the past. A critical analysis of the scope of the Bill is given and recommendations for changes to major aspects of it are made. These aspects include: protection orders and penalties for breaching them, orders relating to property, consent orders, liaison with police, and restrictions on publication of reports of proceedings
