N2  - This journal article presents a range of perspectives relating to children and how they are understood. The authors are critical of "accepted and expected views of childhood." The power of discourses that the authors argue construct children as inferior, and which perpetuate discrimination and the denial of their rights, are discussed. The authors report the results of their research that, they argue, give children a voice to speak about their experiences as victims of, and witnesses to violence.
