The author argues that research shows that the contrary is in fact the case and that the view that schizophrenics are over represented as perpetrators of violence is created and exacerbated by the media and some research literature. The author argues that the mentally ill are in fact over represented as victims of violence, rather than as perpetrators, and evidence of this victimisation is provided in excerpts from interviews taken from the author's unpublished study UR - http://ndhadeliver.natlib.govt.nz/delivery/DeliveryManagerServlet?dps_pid=IE780817 ER -
