This toolkit is a suite of materials for practitioners wishing to work with communities to prevent violence against women. It details a primary prevention approach, that is, one that aims to change attitudes, behaviours and practices to stop violence from occurring in the first place. It describes a process and provides tools for working with the community on prevention of violence against women and their children. This approach can be carried out in a wide range of ‘settings’ – those various places in which the community lives, works, learns and plays. The toolkit offers a strengths based community development approach, which builds the capacity of the community to
plan, implement and evaluate prevention activities under the themes of respectful relationships, gender equality and promotion of nonviolent norms. It outlines and explains this approach, provides practical implementation tools, and includes information about how to evaluate prevention programs. (From the document). This toolkit was developed by Our Watch, based in Victoria, Australia. Access the website for more information. An evaluation of a pilot project which used this toolkit in culturally and linguistically diverse communities (5279) has also been published. Record #5278
