This chapter focuses on the evidence that those experiencing mental illness are at risk of being victims of all types of violence. Perpetration of violence by those with mental illness is also discussed. Other chapters in this report also touch on the issue of violence.
This report includes a focus on the epidemiology of public mental health and the quality of the evidenc e base, ‘horizon scanning’ of innovation in science and technology, the economic case for good mental health and chapters outlining the importance of both treating mental health as equal to physical health and of focusing on the needs and safety of people with mental illness. The chapters also include authors’ suggestions for improvement.
