Paper presented at Social Policy Forum, Wellington, 19th April 1999
This paper uses data from the survey "New Zealand Women: Family, Employment and Education", and the population census to examine family, behavioural and demographic changes in New Zealand society. The ways in which family structure influences the familys' capacity to develop is discussed. This paper concludes that the best way to protect children in New Zealand is to support the wellbeing of families.
