Data was gathered from 14 Age Concern services and provides indicative information about elder abuse and neglect in New Zealand. However, it is not necessarily representative of the overall incidence of elder abuse and neglect in New Zealand. The report acknowledges that we need to improve our knowledge about elder abuse and neglect and to inform the development of strategies to combat this type of violence. Among its recommendations the report states that to improve data collection it is ncessary to a) develop a national database incorporating data from all Elder Abuse and Neglect prevention and intervention providers and b) improve the Age Concern database.
