Subject(s): Online resources: In: Social Work Now (18) April 2001 : 39-44Summary: In this article the authors describe an interagency initiative, the Safety Assessment Form pilot, a family violence project involving Child, Youth and Family, the New Zealand Police, and the National Collective of Independent Women's Refuges. It is noted that the responses to different types of family violence are fragmented on a structural level, which can result in a lack of communication and coherent intervention where both partner violence and child abuse is occurring in the family. This is because responses to family violence are usually through the justice system, whereas responses to child abuse tend to come from the social sector. An analysis of the findings from an evaluation of the project is given and a discussion of the implications for policy and practice development provided.
