This article provides a summary of issues surrounding evidential interviewing discussed at the San Diego Conference on Child and Family Maltreatment held in 2002. The article examines New Zealand practice methods of interviewing children who have been abused, particularly the free narrative technique, and how these fit within the context of international models. The impact on evidential interviewers through 'vicarious traumatisation' is also discussed.
