In this article, the authors examine child impact assessment and its role in determining public policy practices within New Zealand. Child impact assessment is the process of assessing policy and its likely effects on children before implementation occurs. The authors highlight issues addressed by overseas experiences with child impact assessment and the strengths and weaknesses of this process. This article does not address abuse or violence directly.
