Online gender-based violence (OGBV) against women has emerged as a pervasive global issue threatening the rights and safety of women in digital spaces. This article was inspired by Aotearoa New Zealand’s Safer Online Services and Media Platforms Review, led by Te Tari Taiwhenua – the<br/>Department of Internal Affairs. This review proposed a new regulatory framework for online safety which was influenced by legislative frameworks from the United Kingdom and Australia, among other jurisdictions. As such, it seemed insightful to compare these frameworks. However, the New Zealand government has since rejected Te Tari Taiwhenua’s proposal, leaving Aotearoa New Zealand without a clear future direction regarding the issue of online harm.
